Sounds of the Seaside is a very interesting site, documenting sonic landmarks by the sea. Click here

I was contacted by Ian Rawes (the man behind the London Sound Survey) and asked if I would be interested in a ‘recordings swap’ . His site is very interesting (click here) and we both hold the view that field recording/sound sites can only benefit from the sharing of ideas and recordings.
Below are two great recordings Ian made on Canvey Island :
Outdoor Caribbean Religious Service. Ian writes – ” A small group of older Caribbean worshippers hold an outdoor Sunday service on the bandstand at Canvey Island’s seafront. A Communion table has been set up in the middle of the bandstand, around which the worshippers sing and dance. “
Coryton Refinery Siren. Ian writes – ” An eerie siren from the Coryton oil refinery sounds at 25-second intervals, audible across the western half of Canvey Island. Sounds of gas flares being burnt off at the refinery, and birds and insects at the recording point on Canvey Island. “
I hope you find these as interesting as I do.
